The Chief Looking’s Village - Bismark ND
The Chief Looking’s Village is the site of a Native American village in Bismarck, ND. It is located close to the Pioneer Park and was once the site a Mandan village. A number of archaeological remains of the village exist at this site and many of these remains are fully intact. This is why Chief Looking’s Village is a unique site of historic significance.
That being said, you also have plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and hiking around the village. The village is a great option if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and have some peaceful outdoor time. If you are visiting with kids, you may want to check out the well-equipped playground on site. And as the kids play and have fun, you can check out the stunning views of the Missouri River from the hilltop. If you are in the mood for hiking, there are plenty of hills around to climb.
The village has a good sized parking lot. If you want to make the most out of this place, take a book with you when you are visiting alone. Hike around a bit, meditate, read the book while looking out on the river. When with family, you can focus on exploring the village itself which dates back to around 1400. Take a tour through the village and learn about its history. Then sit down on one of the picnic spots and have a bite – a perfect retreat away from the city life.
